American Painter (1975 – 2021)
Jeannides was born in Chicago, Illinois. In 2000, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and continued her studies in Chautauqua, New York, Aix-en-Provence, France, Vienna, Austria, Los Angeles, California, and beyond.
Her practice of en plein air painting (painting on location) grounds her work in a specific time and place.
Jeannides’ style of Contemporary Impressionism is heavily influenced by French Impressionism and the Dutch treatment of light and landscape. She applied these influences to contemporary themes creating a complex and captivating oeuvre.
Video work by Jeannides has been showcased at the Whitney Museum at Altria in New York City. She presented a solo show of paintings and prints at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. And her work is in the collection of the Mayor of Chicago where two large murals are on display today.
Her interest in culture’s relationship to globalization is apparent in her paintings of ports, highways, grocery stores, churches, and built environments interacting with landscapes.
“Globalization’s vast distances are ignored at the grocery store and highlighted at ports and airports.”
She was drawn to hot spots of cultural contrast filling innumerable sketchbooks with drawings of plants, trees, canyons, crowded seasides, city streets, and public transportation.
A stunning example of Jeannides understanding of color and form. These unique textiles are hand-printed (screenprint) and represent her neighborhood in Ukrainian Village and also the changing architecture of Chicago at the turn of the last century.
