Jill Jeannides (1975 - 2021) was born in Chicago, Illinois. In 2000, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and continued her studies in Chautauqua, New York, Aix-en-Provence, France, Vienna, Austria, Los Angeles, California, and beyond. She took her influences from French Impressionism and applied this influence to contemporary themes creating complex and captivating collections.
Jill’s interest in culture’s relationship to globalization is apparent in her paintings of ports, highways, grocery stores, churches, and built environments interacting with landscapes.
“Globalization’s vast distances are ignored at the grocery store and highlighted at ports and airports.”
She was drawn to hot spots of cultural contrast filling innumerable sketchbooks with drawings of plants, trees, canyons, crowded seasides, city streets, and public transportation.
In 2007, Jill’s video work was showcased at the Whitney Museum at Altria in New York City. In 2008, sixteen of her paintings and prints were exhibited at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. In 2011, her work was installed in the Office of the Mayor of Chicago where it still resides today.
